The word setsubun means “the parting of the seasons”.
Therefore,there were four setsubun a year in old times.
Today,it indicates the eve of the first day of spring by the old calender,which is the end of year.
It falls around February 3.On setsubun,people scatter roasted soy beans inside and outside their homes yelling,
“Out with the demons!In with the happiness!”
After scattering soybeans,it is customary to eat the number of soy beans that corresponds to one’s age to pray for perfect health.

「鬼は～外！　福は～内！」
小さなお子さんがいるお家は大きな声がこだまします。
「鬼は～外！　福は～内！」
今年はどんな幸せが舞い込んでくるのかな。
